Surround Display... The Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha has shaken the smartphone world with this term. The technical masterpiece from the Far East has outclassed the competition and caused a real sensation. However, both the innovative display technology and the camera are impressive. As a matter of fact, the flagship with Snapdragon 855 Plus, 12 GB RAM and UFS 3.0 ROM offers only top-class hardware. The Smartphone concept is available from Tradingshenzen at a fair price.
Current smartphones tend to surpass each other in terms of the use of the front surface for the display. A screen-to-body ratio of almost 100% is now considered a quality feature. Xiaomi makes fun of this aspect and makes it seem absurd with the Alpha mix. With the smartphone concept, this is 180.6 %. This is made possible by the surround display, which actually wraps itself around the slim housing. Only a small strip on the back of the phone and a 2.15 mm case on the top and bottom are left out of the display. The Mi Mix Alpha is a superlative smartphone - and not only in terms of its display. The Chinese manufacturer always makes use of the best quality materials. The sensors of the cameras on the back of the case are protected by expensive sapphire glass. The case itself is made of high-quality TC4 titanium, which is also used in space travel and is around 3 times stronger than stainless steel. The narrow strip, on which the high-resolution triple camera was mounted, is made of ceramic.
Almost the entire smartphone consists of a large, coherent screen. Xiaomi coined the name surround display for this innovation. Despite its sheer size, a distinction is made between front and rear displays during operation. The front has a display area of 7.92 inches with a resolution of 2088 x 2250 pixels. This is the first time that a smartphone can fully utilize this area. Information from the system such as signal reception, battery charge level or time is displayed on the side of the panel. With regard to the haptic keys, the Mi Mix Alpha also breaks new ground. Like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, the volume is not regulated using a rocker but directly on the side of the display.
Xiaomi solves the problem with the Selfie camera in an absolutely innovative way. Like the Nubia Z20, self-portraits are not shot with a separate camera, but with the strong triple on the back of the case. The viewfinder is displayed on the back display. Thus, Selfies are made in absolutely outstanding quality and with all functions of the Triple camera. But the Back-Display is much more than just a Selfie-Cam-Solution. The applications are broad and absolutely handy - although the Mi Mix Alpha is a smartphone concept. For example, pocket calculators, calendars, recorders, flight cards or route information can be displayed directly on the rear screen. This is not only battery-saving, but also very clear.
The Mi Mix Alpha offers a screen that can do more than displaying digital content in brilliant FHD+. On the one hand there is a fingerprint sensor of the latest generation below the panel on the front. Within fractions of a second the device can be safely unlocked. The sound, which is unusually rich for a smartphone, is also transmitted via the display. Several drivers have been mounted and promise clear sound reproduction.
The display is an absolute novelty and will immediately attract everyone's attention. The camera, however, does not lag behind when it comes to innovation. With a resolution of 108 megapixels, it surpasses everything that has existed before in terms of resolution alone. The "ISOCELL Bright HMX" sensor was manufactured in cooperation with Samsung and is relatively large at 1/1.33 inch. Accordingly, this sensor can capture much more light than the current competition ever could. The Pixel Monster is complemented by a Sony IMX 350 20-megapixel super wide-angle lens with laser hybrid focus and f/2.8 aperture, which allows a double lossless optical zoom. At the same time, Macro mode allows shots to be taken from as close as 1.5 cm away. The setup is rounded off by a 12-megapixel Samsung sensor with f/2.55 aperture.
Obviously, the Mi Mix Alpha is ahead of its time. This also applies to the performance. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 855 Plus. The Octa Core 64-bit processor clocks at 2.96 GHz and is equipped with an optimized Adreno 640 GPU. The core of the futuristic mobile phone is supported by 12 GB LPDDR4X RAM. However, the upcoming generation of mobile games will find it hard to explore the limits of the Mi Mix Alpha. Xiaomi does not make any compromises with regard to memory capacities either. 512 GB UFS3.0 ROM were installed, which can move and provide even large amounts of data in record time.
It should be understood that the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is equipped for the latest generation of mobile phones. With 5G, even large amounts of data can be downloaded to the smartphone in a very short time. If no fifth-generation mobile network is available, the Mix Alpha will switch to the LTE standard. All required frequencies are available to the technical marvel from the Far East. With Dual Sim, two phone numbers can easily be managed with the Mix Alpha. A maximum data transmission speed is also guaranteed within known local networks. The WLAN standards 802.11 a, b, g, n and ac are supported by the Xiaomi's flagship. Meanwhile, smart everyday companions such as fitness trackers or wireless headphones can be connected using the current Bluetooth 5.0 standard.
A 4050 mAh rechargeable battery has been installed so that the Mi Mix Alpha can survive the day without frequent charging. It can be recharged with up to 40 W in a very short time. A real special feature is the wireless charge function. Xiaomi is the technology leader here and has boosted the wireless charging process with 30 W into new rapid dimensions. In addition to the usual sensors, the Mi Mix Alpha also offers a temperature and humidity sensor.
