The Xiaomi Mi8 Lite / Mi8 Youth Edition is a middle class Smartphone for a budget price. Equipped with the Snapdragon 660 CPU, 6.26 FHD+ Inch Display with Notch, AI Dual 12MP + 5MP Camera, 3350mAh Battery with Quickcharge 3, 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM and Dual SIM 4G+ LTE.
For some time now, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has been offering end-user devices with its "Lite Edition", which is specially designed for the small purse of schoolchildren and students. Clever bargain hunters also get their money's worth with these products. The same applies to the latest member of the range, the Mi 8 Lite Edition. Equipped with a powerful processor, AI support, a successful camera combination and with its modern and absolutely high-quality design, the offshoot of Xiaomi's current flagship makes exactly the right compromises to not only justify its mid-range price, but to exceed it.
In spite of the competitive price, Xiaomi shows its generous side especially in the core of the smartphone. The offshoot of the Mi 8 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SOC processor. The Octa-Core CPU has four cores with a clock rate of 2.20 GHz and four cores with a speed of 1.84 GHz. With the support of the Adreno 512 GPU, even modern 3D games just a walk-over with the Mi 8 Lite Edition. Absolutely sufficient power reserves are also offered for future generations of games. The same applies to multitasking as well as applications that require a lot of memory. With 6 GB RAM, even highly complex applications pose no problem for the mid-range smartphone.
Security codes and patterns are not only an absolute "oldschool", but also represent a certain security risk. In particular, simple patterns and PIN combinations can be quickly copied by unauthorised third parties. At the same time, the unlocking process is unnecessarily delayed. The Mi 8 Lite Edition has put an end to this and offers a fingerprint sensor on the back of the narrow case. It's even faster via Face Unlock. The front camera recognizes the owner of the Smartphone after initial setup and unlocks the device within fractions of a second. The fastest, safest and most comfortable way!
The fast response time and the reliable recognition of the owner is due, among other things, to the outstanding front camera. Xiaomi relies on a Sony IMX576 sensor with a resolution of up to 24 megapixels. Xiaomi offers a real highlight in this price segment due to the extremely powerful Selfie camera. Even high-end smartphones often have a camera of inferior quality. But also the main camera on the back convinces all along the line and makes it clear that the Chinese manufacturer does not tolerate any compromises in this respect.
Unlike other manufacturers, Xiaomi does not rely on proprietary developments and has therefore the ability to select technical innovations and integrate them into its devices. In the case of the Mi 8 Lite Edition, this is the case with the back camera. The 12 megapixel Sony IMX 363 sensor is supported by a powerful Samsung S5K5E8 sensor, which provides a stunning bokeh effect with a resolution of 5 megapixels. Hobby photographers will have a lot of fun with this strong duo. Inexperienced photographers and amateurs on the other hand will be thrilled by the AI support. Suitable settings for the object in front of the two lenses are fully automatically selected. The electronic image stabilisation balances out unsteady hands during camera movement and thus guarantees even better results.
As with the flagship, Xiaomi features an extraordinary display, which is convincing in terms of design with a characteristic notch and a very good display-to-body ratio. The AMOLED HD+ screen enchants its viewers with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. At the same time, it has a comfortable size of 6.26 inches. The modern space-saving design allows a compact size of 156.4 x 75.8 x 7.5 mm. At the same time, the Mi 8 Lite Edition weighs just 169 grams.
A 3350 mAh strong battery lies hidden inside the narrow casing so that the camera as well as the smartphone itself can faithfully perform its service even on long workdays and on day trips. With QuickCharge 3.0, it can be recharged in a very short time. An Internet connection can be established at a breathtaking speed. FDD LTE and WLAN 802.11 b, g, n and ac with 2x2 WiFi support guarantee high-speed transfer rates. Location services are enabled via GPS, GLONASS, Beidou and AGPS. Fitness trackers and other wireless accessories, on the other hand, can be connected to the Mi 8 Lite Edition simultaneously using Bluetooth 5.0 in low-energy mode.
